Adding to KB's SLU Memorial Photos...

 

Kathie's post reminded me I was going to share these screen shots... somehow I knew if I watched it thru to the end that Kathie & Lucie would come up to the front of the chapel.

I think that I said in my email, the service was a much better memorial for mama. The piano music of course, the very moving tributes from the students, all the prayers from different cultures. Much better than Father Whoha's sermon on the Prodigal Son. The Prodigal Son??

A lot of remembering going on..

Well, I did say I was going to post on Stationary Starling but I've procrastinated a bit while I try to finish making our trip to NYC into a scrapbook - sheesh, good thing it was only a 4-day weekend! So many pictures to play with!

Here are pictures from the SLU memorial and my trip the next day to St. Peter and St. Paul cemetery which is deep in South St. Louis where I start to feel the lack of oxygen for some reason, as if I might never return to the real world.

The memorial is easy to find, just inside the entrance. I don't know when they carve the names, they don't seem to be in any particular order and there are spaces here and there, a few sides empty and the stones at the far left and far right are completely empty. It was close to 5:00 when they close so I didn't have time to search for Daddy's name...I don't know if they check to see if anyone is inside before they close the gate!

More to mourn: our pin oak is scheduled for the axe, we thought this month but turns out not until mid-December or January, they are so backed up. Sue was correct that it is hypoxylon canker, not the galls that killed it. I just finished two online classes about planting native oaks "but not pin oak" because it's no good in the urban or suburban landscape. The arborists said yes yes this is happening to all of them. But happily it won't spread to the swamp white oak because they are tough even out of the swamp and they aren't red oaks. Good. But I wish they'd come and do it already.

I harvested my ginger but not the Dahlias. If they survive the winter, that's good, but I just didn't feel like going through the whole rigamarole of storing them and starting them and planting them out at the right time, etc. etc.

We had a great untraditional thanksgiving, except that I forgot to check for the zoom update so we missed that. Okay, maybe for Christmas? love, Agelaius

Cicada mania in Michigan! Geoff and I screamed when they landed on our necks.....

 

We had a good visit in Petoskey over the 4th with Uncle Pete/Stu and Tom and Chris Hammond (unfortunately, Alex stayed home). Had some intense political conversations--Stu would say "I don't want to get into this" and then say something that the rest of us 'got into'!

Wedding #1

Our Zoom wedding ceremony went as well as could be reasonably expected and we are now legally married! The minister gave us a video but our webcam isn't especially nice, so the pictures we took definitely look nicer. We had a wonderful day and we are looking forward to celebrating with everyone in September.
