Geoff still working on wintertime puzzle- Alex and I gave up awhile ago (when only single color pieces left). Geoff's pandemic hair can now be put back in a ponytail. Hooray!

 

 

 

And Alex turned 18! My sister and brother-in-law brought over oysters which Alex is contemplating before eating (thanks for the TP, Kathie!)

 

 

 

A new year tradition

 It was time to put away the Christmas decorations, so I thought I would use the bare mantelpiece for messages. Thanks to the Barrios family gift, I can change it around  - mysteriously since I go to bed later than my husband. He did his morning exercises facing the other way, though, and didn't get the message until I brought him his coffee.  Still fun!

Happy New Year!

We made some traditional Russian salads for New Year's.

The one that says "happy new year" is called "herring under a fur coat" and it has carrots, beets, and of course, herring. The other one has crab stick, hard boiled egg and red caviar. We used an entire bottle of mayonnaise between the two of them! We went on a ridiculous trip to get the caviar, because we were in New Jersey for something else, so we thought it would be faster to stop by a Russian grocery in New Jersey than go to Brooklyn via Manhattan. Naturally we hadn't counted on the labyrinthine New Jersey bus system, so after several hours of missing busses and squeezing into what turned out to be a tiny store, we had the caviar but agreed that in the future we'd just go to Brooklyn.

They both turned out great, which is good because we will be eating them for the next week! I dressed up for the occasion even though we weren't going anywhere:

Even though we live within walking distance of Times Square, we didn't venture out because they said they weren't letting people in this year. We watched on TV instead, and Alex was a little disappointed to find out that the ball drop is actually pretty lame. But overall it was a nice time. Happy 2021, everyone!
